Grandma Shurtz, LoRee Munson Shurtz, passed away this morning. With us, will always be those special memories we have shared together. Her legacy will continue to be passed on as she was a truly remarkable woman.
Memories of jumping on the square tramp |
The swing, the cherry tree, the garden |
Grandma was known for being an excellent cook. Not only was her food tasty, but she could cook for an army. I loved her homemade bread, ice cream, chocolate sauce, jams, juices, etc. Everything she touched was excellent homemade food! Thank goodness we have the Shurtz Cookbook to remember her delicious food!
She had wonderful children, who provided her with 50 grandchildren. She would send homemade birthday cards to all of her children and grandchildren every year.
She enjoyed her siblings and they continued getting together with the Munson reunion.
Grandma had the best laugh. She knew how to enjoy life. She loved to play the piano, sing, and dance.
The morning of the wedding, Grandma Shurtz sat in the kitchen and watched the "beauty salon" as my wonderful sisters did my hair, make-up, nails, etc. She laughed and thought it was quite the production. I will never forgot that moment of my wedding day.
Last August, David, Todd, and I stopped by Uncle Mike's house to visit Grandma. We exchanged Alaskan cruise stories, heard stories about Grandpa, and saw her famous smile.
Todd and I bottled peaches from last season and only expect to bottle more once we get our fruit trees |
Another memory of Grandma Shurtz is her diligence and hard work. She knew how to have a good time, but also worked so hard. She bottled peaches, cherries, juices, beans, etc. The last words she told my dad and mom before they said goodbye while skyping, was "work hard". I feel that is a tribute to her life and the lesson she would want everyone to learn from her. She would be proud to see that her traditions is still being carried on.
